Western Cape Hotel & Spa
Cradled in the heart of the Western Cape Hotel, situated on the Arabella Country estate near Hermanus, is the AltiraSPA. This is a modern, integrated facility, designed to the highest international standards in order to meet the growing need for “wellness” solutions to the demands made on body and mind by 21st century living. We recognise that today people want to do more with their lives than merely cope with the overwhelming cost of ever-mounting stress, that people are seeking new and effective ways of taking control of their lives, preventing disease, and enhancing their health.
More and more twentieth century illnesses have been shown to be related to the smoking, drinking, eating and hurrying behaviours of people. Furthermore, it is possible that more than 70% of all medical complaints are stress-related, most of which could be prevented by changes in lifestyle and adopting health-promoting behaviours, rather than attempting to operate, medicate or radiate away the effects of unhealthy living.
The Western Cape Hotel & Spa’s primary objective is to orchestrate physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual components to produce a sense of total well-being. To achieve this objective we offer a wide range of interesting, exciting and even exotic experiences that fall into a number of distinct categories. “Internal” arts such as meditation and yoga allow one to access their “inner wisdom”, to better integrate mind and body.
An important part of Western Cape Hotel & Spa’s offering is a range of therapies that incorporate the healing power of “touch” that facilitate relaxation, disease prevention and general health. Massage, in particular, addresses the two most common debilitating effects of modern life — the underuse and overuse of our bodies. As a guest you will also be able to profit from a wide variety other spa services, including therapeutic, regenerative and luxurious facial & body treatments. All treatments are specially designed and offered by our professionally trained team of therapists.
Through the hi-tech fitness centre, activity room, lap pool and various outdoor activities, we encourage and promote an active lifestyle. Our Bademeisters will ensure that you get the most out of your spa experience and, in addition, offer health & fitness testing and personal training.
AltiraSPA has recently been included in Bernard Burt’s “100 Best Spas of the World”.
Western Cape Hotel ‘African Rainforest Experience’
Western Cape Hotel and Spa has recently unveiled The African Rainforest Experience – a world first sensory water and steam treatment developed in South Africa using African products and inspired by African rains.
The African Rainforest Experience combines free-flowing water, enveloping mist and a variety of African colours and fragrances to create a treatment that stimulates all the senses. The result is a 15-step experience comprising therapeutic showers, scrubs and steam treatments. All the consumables and fragrances are locally sourced from the Stellenbosch-produced wellness and beauty range, TheraVINE. These will also be used at the group’s other spa.
“The new spa at the Western Cape Hotel is truly exceptional and is set to influence world spa trends” says Lynda Killick , customer services manager of Design Holidays.
Western Cape Hotel & Spa guests will be greeted at the entrance and carefully guided through the two-hour process by a qualified therapist – taking away any nervousness about how properly to use the fifteen steps to wellbeing. Each stage is experienced individually so the feeling is one of restorative solitude which maximises privacy; everyone is asked to wear cotton sarongs; the lights are dimmed and the air is misty with scented sprays from the ceiling showers; the floor is ‘quartz carpet’ – a specially designed covering that is not slippery when wet and feels warm to the feet.
The Western Cape Hotel & Spa has recently increased the number of treatment rooms in the Body & Skincare Centre from eight to eighteen in order to meet the rapidly increasing demand for this type of spa service. This has also enabled them to offer a wider variety of specialised treatments. The hydrotherapy tub and hydrothermal capsule are two unique features of the Body & Skincare Centre. You can work out in our state-of-the-art fitness centre or enjoy a swim in the heated lap pool.
You may also choose to relax and de-stress in the hydro pool complex or Hammam Centre. The later facility, in particular, provides a unique, self-nurturing opportunity where you can enhance your wellness experience by selectively indulging in the Rassoul, Turkish steam room, brine pool (with under-water music!), Swedish sauna, plunge pool, sensation showers, Jacuzzi and Bellavista winter garden.
Arabella Golf Course
The theme at the Arabella golf course is balance. Challenging enough to bring you back for more, enjoyable enough to make you not want to leave. The course was awarded the Golf Digest award for the best new course in South Africa in 1999. In 2002, the course was rated number 9 in South Africa by Golf Digest and number 5 in 2003.
Arabella Golf Club was awarded the Compleat Golfer Five Star award in 2003.The course is 6381 metres in length and has a SAGU rating of 72. It borders the largest natural lagoon in Southern Africa, and the 9th, 17th and 18th run parallel to the lagoon.Choosing a signature hole proves to be an extremely difficult task as all of the holes are well designed with spectacular views.Golf carts, pull carts and caddies are available.
